ONE important thing to remember
when listening to before and after on a mastering project is what the
client has in mind dictates the final project. Many independent
artists are very specific on the sound they are looking for. Time
Theft Studio strives to provide avenues for artists to express as
accurately as possible their desired sound.
The clips below reflect a few different mastering projects by Time Theft Studios. It should not, however, be taken as an example of what YOUR music would sound like if mastered. All clients are very involved in shaping the final sound of their music. Time Theft Studio realizes that independent artists are often times independent because of their particularness about their sound. We see this as an opportunity to work together with musicians to exceed their expectations and our own abilities. 1. THIS is a song by an independent band, pocket cookie. The finished master reflects the band's desire to reinforce the sound of the guitar as the dominant part of the mix while at the same time preserving some of the raw feel of the ramshackle recording sessions the band recorded the song in. Stick in the Eye -- Pocket Cookie : CLIP OF UNMASTERED MIX (875KB MP3) Stick in the Eye -- Pocket Cookie : CLIP OF MASTERED MIX (990KB MP3) 2. THIS is the first half of a song by Time Theft the band. Our major goals in mastering were to widen the sound of the track, give the vocals a more defined, independent, and stereophonic presence, sharpen the sound of the rhythm guitar, and mostly bring the bass up to where its simple notes ring as powerful as possible without distorting. (To really hear the work on the bass, you should listen to the difference on a system with decent woofers, or a subwoofer) I Killed a Hornet -- Time Theft : CLIP OF UNMASTERED MIX (1694 KB MP3) I Killed a Hornet -- Time Theft : CLIP OF MASTERED MIX (1695 KB MP3) 3. TIME Theft Studio exists as an open ended audio production house. To help illustrate how we can creatively produce your music, we've made a couple of completely different mixes from an old extremely lo-fidelity recording of our own. The recording that was made five years ago is the first clip. The second two clips are two completely different production directions to help inspire creative thinking for your own music. We did re-dub the vocals due to the fact we were never satisfied with them in the first place. These two songs should not be heard necessarily as ways you could realize your own music, but rather should serve to illustrate the depth of possibilities Time Theft Studio can offer your music. The second clip below is more of a re-mix that tries to emphasize the lo-fi aspect of the sound while not being concerned with fidelity to the original. The second is more traditional mastering, but still shows a sonic improvement from the unmastered mix. THE songs on this page, while showing you samples of Time Theft Studio's mastering capabilities at the present time, are intended to inspire you to think creatively about an aspect of production major label does not afford. The forms for your FREE quote provide space to be as specific or as detailed as you want. Email us with any additional questions at info@timetheft.com. REMEMBER, Time Theft Studio is an open ended audio production house. We strive to be the most affordable production house available as well so that you can work on mastering/producing your crazy ideas, or even your most passionate and well crafter songs. We are here to exist in a format for independent musicians who want to know more about how music is mastered and want to apply their independent taste to every stage of production. IF we do not approach every aspect of our music, including post-production, and mastering with the same creative vision as the rest of the project, we do not do our music justice.
